Limousin outfit sells to 16,800gns at Newark breeders’ sale
Limousin females met insatiable demand at the Limousin Society’s breeders’ sale at Newark on Saturday (17 May) when a cow and calf outfit sold to a top of 16,800gns.
Leading trade at 13,000gns was the September 2007-born Uruguay daughter Clochette from William Bird’s Birdies herd dispersal.
Clochette was bred by Gaec Robert, La Rebeyrolle, St Yrielx La Perche and is a half-sister to the AI sire Bahut. Clochette.
This one is out of the Mercator daughter Urne and sold Pd’d in-calf again to Brutus. She was the pick of Danny Sawrij for his Swalesmoor herd, Lockerbie. Mr Sawrij also took her heifer calf, the April-2013-born Brutus daughter Birdies Isabeau at 3,800gns.
Following her at 10,000gns was Scorboro Equity, from the Birdies herd. This Scorboro Aramis daughter, originally bred by Jim Bloom, is out of the Ronick Upshot daughter Scorboro Aramia. With a beef value of +56, she sold with a heifer calf at foot by Brutus and was knocked down to the Gascoines Group for their Gascoines herd, Newark.
The same purchasers then paid 8,000gns for Corridan Diamond, an October 2008-born daughter of Corridan Arkle from the Birdies dispersal but bred by Corridan Farms, Lincolnshire. Sired by the Sympa son, Corridan Arkle, this one is out of the Greenwell Major daughter Corridan Uvette and sold with her Brutus sired bull calf at foot, Birdies Jim.
A 7,500gns bid then saw the Gascoines Group secure the second calver Bailgate Flavia, again from the Birdies dispersal. She’s by the 100,000gns Haltcliffe Vermount and is out of the Vagabond daughter Greenwell Donatella. This one was originally purchased at the Bailgate dispersal for 4100gns. She sold suckling her six-week-old bull calf Birdies Jez – a Brutus son.
Securing a combined bid of 7,200gns was the 4,200gns Corridan Diddy. Sired by Corridan Alladin she is out of Corridan Pamela and sold to PJ and RS Edwards and Sons, Maesycoed, Pontypridd. She sold with her rising yearling heifer calf, Birdies Ingrid (by Brutus) at foot, who made 3,000gns to GJ Lee and CM Lloyd, Kidwelly, Carms.
George McCague, Sheepbridge Road, Newry, N Ireland secured the services of another Birdies’ mother and daughter combination for 6,200gns for his Bridgeview Herd. This came in the shape of Newmarque Fleur, bred by Mark Phillips, Carlisle. This Objat daughter is out of the Rocky-sired Newmarque Celia. She sold with her Brutus-sired calf at foot, Birdies Ivy, and back in calf to the same sire.
Chris Clements, Bury, St Edmunds, purchased the 6,000gns ten-year-old French cow, Virgule, by Snoopy and out of Joconde, along with her February-born heifer calf at foot, Birdies Iris by Brutus, for his Suffolk-based Roclaw Herd. Virgule was bred by Earl Lagautriere, Boudelongue, Villard, France and is dam of the noted show bull, Bonux. She was sold five months in-calf to Euphrate.
Two lots made 5500gns. The first of these was the French bred Uranie, a Manoir daughter out of Panure. This one, again from Birdies, sold with a Nenuphar heifer calf at foot to D Thomas, Cwmann, Lampeter.
Next at this money was Corridan Daisy, another Birdies consignment, sired by Corridan Arkle and out of the Rubis sired Corridan Amour. She sold with her Brutus sired heifer calf Birdies Jemima at foot to the Gascoines Group, Newark.
Just shy of this at 5,000gns Mark Phillips, Castle Douglas, purchased Corridan Delphinium, once again from the Birdies herd. Another by Arkle, she is out of the Nenuphar daughter Corridan Veronica and sold empty, but with a Bonux bull calf at foot.
Pennys herd dispersal
The Pennys Herd Dispersal on behalf of Messrs P and P Walker, Watton, Driffield, topped at 3,000gns twice for two maiden heifers. First was Pennys Hebe, by Haltcliffe Ben and out of the Ronick Upshot daughter Pennys Ceanothus. She sold to Aileen Ritchie, Whitecairns, Aberdeen.
Making the same figure was the similarly bred Pennys Helen, which was snapped up by Tredon Limousins, Willingham, Cambridgeshire.
Heading cow and calf prices at 2,700gns was Pennys Emma, a 2009-born cow sired by Aldwyck Jake and out of Pennys Ursula. Purchasers were PR Walker and Son, Lund, East Yorks, for their Rossellie prefix.
Emma was sold suckling her December-born heifer calf, Pennys Irene (by Procters General) and back in calf.
Rachels herd of D and MLP Woolhouse, Driffield
The production sale of the Rachels herd saw an in-calf heifer lead prices at 3,500gns. Securing a final bid of 3,500gns to Craig Cameron, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, was Rachels Hermione, sired by Rachels Dynamite and out of Rachels Rebecca. With a tremendous Beef Value of LM+56, she was sold in-calf to either Vagabond. Mr Cameron also took home the 3,000gns Rachels Hayley and the 3,000gns maiden heifer Rachels Ivy for his Greenferns Herd.
Smiths of Bloxham, Banbury
Leading price was the 3,200gns Ironstone Hocuspocus when purchased by Danny Sawrij for his Swalesmoor Limousin Herd. A November 2012-born maiden heifer, Hocuspocus is by the Ramses son, Rathkeeland Dylan, and is out of the Sympa-sired dam Trueman Duet.
JCG Bloom and Son, Scorborough, Driffield secured a top price of 2,400gns for their run of females. This came in the form of Scorboro Hokeykokey, a maiden heifer by Ironstone Colonel and out of Scorboro Cancan (by Coachhouse Supreme) who was purchased by AH Booth, Hardwick Hall Farm, Aston, Sheffield.
