Limousin youngstock hit 3500gns
Carlisle’s annual Limousin youngstock sale featuring stock from Hudscales, Beck, Hafodlas and Gunnerfleet herds, saw demand for quality youngstock, forcing prices up.
Topping trade at 3500gns was a heifer from the Gunnerfleet herd, from Mr J Hanley. The stylish Gunnerfleet Belivy, born November 2006, with a calving index of +4 is by Tunnelby Monkeytricks and out off Gunnerfleet Ivy. She sold to R Stevenson, Kirby Stephen, Cumbria.
The Gunnerfleet’s success continued with a call of 3400gns for 15 month old Gunnerfleet Celiny, one of the herds best bred heifers offered for sale.
Sired by Heros and out of Gunnerfleet Liny, she had a breeding value of +25 and was sold to E W Williams, Oswestry, Shropshire. The average price paid for 13 Gunnerfleet heifers on the day was ÂŁ1631.54.
Also gaining high prices were two bulls from the Hudscales herd, from Messrs A and W Cowx, making 3200gns each. The first bull, Hudscales Corporal, born January 2007, has a beef value of +27 and is by Aghadolgan Vagus out of Hudscales Victoria. He sold to A T and A Bainbridge, Barnard Castle.
Hudscales Cesare, born January 2007 by Aghadolgan Vagus and out of Hudscales Usabelle, also made 3200gns.
With a breeding value of +35 and muscle depth of +5.30 he sold to E S and E Norman, Orton, Cumbria. The average price for a Hudscales bull on the day was ÂŁ2356.67.
The Hafodlas herd also had a good day, with 9 month old Hafodlas Collen selling for 2800gns to P Roberts, Anglesey. This young heifer with style and presence and from good bloodlines is by Bailea Spunkie out of Dedswell Melanie.
The Beck herd, from W J Hickson made 1200gns for both his bulls. Beck Collier, the 15 month old bull is sired by Samy and out of Beck Mildred, who in the past has produced stocks bulls whose calves have regularly sold in excess of 2000gns. He sold to P Fletcher, Heywood, Lancashire.
Beck Chester, the youngest calf in the consignment, but amongst the best fleshed also sold for 1200gns to M L L Thomas, Bryn Farm, Llanrwst. The calf is by Ionesco and out of Betty Patty.
The Cracrop Herd from Messrs D T and M Stobart also had some good prices, with Cracrop Cheekygirl making 2000gns. The July 2007 born heifer is by Elrick Thunder out of Cracrop Aster. With a beef value of +35 and a muscle depth of 5.10, she sold to D W and E M E Armstrong, Chorley, Lancashire.
