Limousins in demand at Borderway

A good turnout of 218 store cattle forward at Borderway Mart last Wednesday (29 October), saw all classes meet a flying trade.

 Top call of the day was a Charolais cross steer for Messrs Brough, Clappers Farm, Wigton, who reached £1,295. Another from the same vendor achieved £1,290.

 The leading heifer was again consigned by Messrs Brough, Clappers Farm, Wigton. Their Charolais cross achieved £1,195.


A poorer show of 238 weanlings were forward, with quality lots in great demand and saw Limousins top all classes.

Leading the bidding at £1,150 was a Limousin bull from Crookholm Farm. Topping the steer trade was another Limousin, which reached £1,100 for Oakghyll Farm. Also at £1,100 was a Limousin heifer from Winterhope Farm.



On the same day, Carlisle saw an entry of 326 young calves and a packed ringside.  Top price of the day was £505 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Whitfield, Balladoyle, Silloth.

The leading heifer calf sold for £480 from Hillend. Black and white’s of all ages and classes met a strong trade, with many buyers present.
