Limousins meet patchy demand at Bristol

A selective demand for cattle at the South Western Limousin Cattle Breeders Club sale at Bristol produced a top call of 1900gns for a five-year-old cow bred in the Grahams herd.

Consigned by Devon breeders Mr and Mrs D K Wheeler who run the Rosecroft herd at Cullompton, Grahams Trudy has a wealth of good French breeding behind her. She is by the Ideal son Grahams Poncho and out of a cow by Ulysse. She has a Beef Value of 123 and was in-calf to Scorboro Regius. Buyer was H Parker, Warminster, Wiltshire.

He also gave 1600gns for the next lot from the same herd. Grahams Tulip – also by Poncho – is out of a dam by Mirage and has a Beef Value of 124. She was in-calf to Ryedale Paragon.

Her January-born heifer calf by Ryedale Paragon made 1000gns to N and L Hill, Cheddar, Somerset.

Coombe Martin, Devon vendor H White took 1700gns for his February 2006-bred bull Exmoor Buddy. By the high-earning Cumbria-based sire Sympa and with a Beef Value of 124, he goes to C J Dare and Son, Honiton.

Bill Quick and Sons, Crediton gave 1400gns for Nealford Anabel, a Dyfri Regent in-calf heifer from J H Neale, Launceston, Cornwall. She was in-calf to Raysonhall Utah. The Quick family also paid 1300gns for the Scorboro Mallard sired heifer Nealford Africanqueen who was also in-calf to the Raysonhall sire.

Adding to their purchases, the Quicks also gave 1000gns for Sedgemoor Saturday. This Ronick Iceman daughter was suckling her fifth calf – a June-bred heifer by Nabil. She was consigned by David Crosier, Bridgewater, Somerset.
