Lincoln Reds hit 3000gns at Newark

A packed ringside of enthusiasts gathered at Newark Saturday last, to witness the Autumn Show and Sale of Pedigree Lincoln Red Cattle.

 A decent catalogued entry and plenty of quality met buyers in somewhat a subdued mood with plenty of talk of winter feeding costs, which has been a reflection throughout all the beef breed pedigree sales nationally this Autumn.

Top price of the day, was a tremendous heifer Hemingby Treasure L564. This is a September 2008 daughter of St Fort Essex and out of a Market Stainton Upstart cow and sold in calf to the record price Walmer Legend Treasure. She was bought by Messrs Field, Upton, Southwell.

Second top and furthest travelled animal, was from Andrew Mylius, Fife, who sold the second prize bull  St Fort Musketeer. This is a September 2008 son of  St Fort Guv’nor and is out of a Beverley Zeall sired cow. He sold at 2700gns to John Hamilton, Scotland.

Bev Wright took the female championship with Bevann Heroine a January 2008-born daughter of Beverley Adventurer and out of a McJurk Hansard cow. She sold in-calf at 1900gns to S Thompson, Melton Mowbray.

Averages; bulls £2835, 18 cows in calf and/or with calf at foot £715.50, 26 served heifers £1342.79, 23 maiden heifers £803.02  (Newark Livestock Market)
