A NEW ALL-BREED record average of 4881 was achieved on the final day of Perth Bull Sales when 126 Charolais bulls were sold, reaching a top price of 25,000gns.
Highest earner was the Goldie family”s Goldies Unbeatable (beef value 29) from their herd in Dumfries. He was pulled out for the supreme championship by Alasdair Houston, who poured praise on this son of Blelack Rustic.
“He’s got length, scale, great hindquarters and tremendous character,” said Mr Houston.
Unbeatable stood junior interbreed champion at the Royal Highland Show and was bought by John Currie, Ballymena. A semen deal with Australia and New Zealand has already been sealed.
Reserve Junior Champion
Seven bull sales from Banchory breeder Neil Barclay’s Harestone herd included a 20,000gns call for Harestone Unclesam (beef value 32), reserve junior champion at the Royal Highland Show. By Harestone Rover and out of a Baggrave-bred dam Unclesam was bought by Baggrave Farms of Leicester.
The same buyers also paid 10,000gns for the Gower Roulette-sired Gower Universe (beef value 24) from Richard and Alison Tucker’s herd in Swansea.
Neil Barclay took 11,000gns for the Ptiprince son Harestone Tito (beef value 21) from commercial beef producers W Fraser and Sons of Ballindalloch. The Mortimers Meridian son Harestone Ulsterman (beef value 25) made 8000gns to J Hogg of East Lothian.
Coolnaslee Universe (beef value 23) from Gilbert Crawford, Co Derry, heads back to Co Antrim at 17,000gns with Thomas Boyd, while new North Yorks breeders Cliff and Joan Metcalfe also earned 17,000gns for Mowbraypark Umpire. This son of Mowbraypark Paramount was bought suckling one of their foundation cows. He has a top 1% beef value of 43 and goes to Orkney buyer W Baillie.
Four bulls made 10,000gns. The Oldstone Egbert-sired Glencoe Ulysses (beef value 23) from Paddy and Valerie McDonald, Co Down, sold to W Lilburn and Son, Blairgowrie, while Aberdeenshire buyer Ian Thomson bought the Doonally New-sired Janos Ubet at 10,000gns from Mr and Mrs B Evans, Powys.
North Yorks breeders Mike and Margaret Atkinson took 10,000gns for the Paramount son Mowbraypark Urban (beef value 36). The final 10,000gns deal sent Balnuith Unicorn (beef value 26) to Cheshire-based Boden and Davies” Sportsmans herd. This son of the 11,000gns Lochend Pirate was consigned by P Cooper and Son, Forfar (United Auctions).
