Friesian first
FOR THE first time, type and production predicted transmitting abilities for British Friesian sires, using its own breed code and genetic base, have been published with the February proof run.
This means they are no longer being compared directly with Holstein sires, say MDC Evaluations Gordon Swanson. Heading the available British Friesian sire rankings is Newfailand Mr Frosty with a ÂŁPLI of 47. He is followed by Kirkby Emperor with a ÂŁPLI of 46 and Tittenser Hylke with a ÂŁPLI of 41.
“This ability to compare bulls within the breed will enable Friesian breeders to consider and put into practice sound breeding plans and link this to improved efficiency of progeny testing young Friesian bulls,” says Mr Swanson.
