Improvements see British bull soar up £PLI ranking

A BRITISH BRED bull has leapt 90 places up the £PLI rankings in the latest MDC Evaluations proof run having shown improvements in type merit and production.

Picston Shottle, who was bred by the Pickford family and progeny tested by Genus Breeding, now has more than 100 daughters in both his type and production proofs. He is also the only bull in the top 100 £PLI to rate higher than +3 for type merit, foot and leg and udder composite, says Genus’ Mark Smith.

Shottle’s production proof has also shown a significant improvement, now with more than 100 milking daughters. His milk, fat and protein have all risen giving him the largest increase – £21 – in PLI of any sire in this proof run, he adds.

Otherwise, changes to the top ranked sires are relatively minor. The high milk quality German sire Careca CV has moved up three places since August and is now in second place with a £PLI of 90. Dekker Eext Promise slips down to fourth with a £PLI of 88, but has the highest fat weight available at +36.4kg.
