Enzyme phytase helps feed absorption

Including the enzyme phytase into diets could increase the amount of feed absorbed by the animal rather than being lost in manure, making them cost-effective in many cases, according to AB Vista’s Michael Bedford.
“Enzymes work by removing obstacles to digestion and breaking down indigestible anti-nutrients. And specifically the enzyme phytase works by breaking down phytic acid, which is actually an irritant in the gut,” he said.
And with 1.2% of soyabean meal made up on phytic acid, there are obvious benefits to using phytase in the diet. “Phytase breaks down phytic acid into several products including phosphorous and this phosphorous release easily pays for the cost of the enzyme phytase,” he said.
