South-west co-ops join forces

SOUTH-WEST CO-OPS Cornwall Farmers and Countrywest Trading are joining forces to set up a new feed business.

Tamar Feeds will own Countrywest‘s existing mill at Launceston, which will be leased and run under contract by BOCM Pauls in conjunction with its Exeter plant.

Cornwall Farmers‘ blend plant at Truro will be unaffected, said a spokesman.

Countrywest chairman Malcolm Tillier said: “This opens the door to a reduction in duplicated transport and distribution costs for each of the partners.”

The co-ops have a combined membership of 5400 and feed sales of 150,000t.
