Water quality to be studied
Ensuring pigs receive clean, correctly formulated feed has long occupied farmers minds, but what about water?
According to Ian Carroll of specialist pig vets Garth Partnership, pig farmers have much to gain from focusing their attention on water quality.
“Poor water quality can result in undesirable effects including reduced consumption and transmission of disease-causing organisms.”
However, Mr Carroll admits one of the difficulties in managing water quality can be determining and controlling water quality.
“Testing water at the point of consumption is the first vital step many producers need to take.”
As such, he is encouraging units to take part in a national water quality study being undertaken by Forum Bioscience.
