Marsdens Farms Angus bull sells in private deal to Cogent
The homebred Aberdeen-Angus bull Liley Ed M021 from Marsdens Farms Ltd has been sourced by AI Company Cogent Breeding as an addition to their beef portfolio.
Bred in the 120-cow pedigree herd at Penistone, Sheffield, Ed is a son of Rawburn Elmer J921, an AI sire that has been used with great success in the herd and is out of the Rawburn Enigma G653 daughter Rawburn Evensong J939, who was purchased as a foundation female.
Not only is his pedigree packed with some of the top sires of the breed, but his performance matches with a positive calving ease of +2.9 and a Self Replacing Index of +50, which ranks him in the top 1% of the breed, coupled with a milk figure of +14.
Speaking of the purchase, Cogent Beef Specialist Boomer Birch said: “On a visit to Liley Angus, we were impressed with the line up of bulls for sale and are pleased to have been able to secure such a well bred Aberdeen-Angus bull with a great set of figures as well. He will no doubt compliment our beef portfolio.”
Breeder Ben Marsden, who established the herd in 2011, added: “To sell a bull in to Cogent in such a short space of time breeding Angus cattle is a big achievement for this herd. Liley Ed has been one to watch since he was a young calf and with pedigree and performance, he also has the easy fleshing, stature and breed character required in a modern Angus. We hope to use semen from him within the herd when it becomes available in January.”
