Middleton champion calf sells for £650

A packed ringside saw a strong sale of store cattle and suckled calves at Harrison and Hetherington’s Middleton in Teesdale market. Averages rose by £144.97 for steers to level at £613.64 and heifers rose by £88.09 to level at £489.62.

The champion, a Limousin cross steer from J R Dalton, South Wellope sold for £650 to J Maughan, while a second prize steer from the same holding sold at £630 to Messrs Askwith.

For the same money the Askwith’s bought the third prize steer from J E and A J Mitchell, Parrick House.

In the heifer classes the second prize heifer, again from the Dalton’s sold for £605 to N Hall and Son, while E Scott and Son bought the third prize heifer from D J Mallon, Pallet Crag.
