Omelette wins British Egg Week contest
The Savoy’s famous Omelette Arnold Bennett beat off the competition in an egg
recipe contest, voted on by the Guild of Food Writers this month.
Guild members were asked by the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC) to vote for the most iconic egg recipe. The winning recipe is an omelette filled with smoked haddock in a rich creamy sauce.
A selection of the winning egg recipes will feature on Lion egg packs, as part of British Egg Week 2007.
The event is organised by the BEIC to celebrate 50 years of British Lion Eggs. The original celebrity chef, Marguerite Patten, OBE, will launch British Egg Week 2007 at the House of Commons before touring Britain’s town halls and theatres to demonstrate classic 1950s egg recipes.
She will also be joined by the fastest omelette maker in the world, Howard Helmer.
British Egg Week will take place during 8-14 October.
