Overwater dairy dispersal peaks at 2,500gns

The dispersal of the entire milking portion of the Maughan Family’s Overwater Herd, Crewe, topped at 2,500gns when cows went under the hammer at Beeston.

Top seller was Overwater Seabreeze 266th (VG85-2yr), a daughter of Cogent Twist that calved in June last year and was due to calve again in April to Sabbiona Goldfarm. She sold to Alan Vernon, Whitchurch, giving 33kg a day.

Next at £2,250 was the Decker daughter, Overwater Baillies Pine 7th (GP82). Due with her second in July to Foxberry JS McFly she sold to AA Winstanley and Partners, Audlem.

Not far behind at £2,200 was the leading fresh heifer Overwater Baillies Rachel 6th, by Bassingthorpe Drayman. She sold giving 36.2kg to Garnett Farms, Knutsford. A further twenty milkers sold for more than £1,500.

Averages: 134 cows and heifers, £1,028.29; 51 in-calf heifers, £1,438.50; 13 served/maiden heifers, £804.46.
