Perth bull sales 2011: Beef Shorthorn female money makers
Yesterday’s sale of Shorthorn females saw an all centre female breed record average of £2,601 for 91 entries, a figure representing the highest number of Beef Shorthorn females sold in one day this century.
The leading female entry at 5,800gns (lot 245) was the female champion, Lowther Lily 266 from Charles Lowther’s 55 cow pedigree herd based near Penrith.
Sired by the Canadian bred Blelack Minstrel she was out of a Canadian sired homebred dam, Lowther Lily 1 and went to join Orkney breeder, Messrs Taylor’s four cow herd run alongside 150 commercial cows. The
Charles Lowther sold a total of nine females to average £3,605, the highest ever Beef Shorthorn female breed average from an individual breeder this century. The entire offering was by Blelack Minstrel, and was his first crop of heifer calves to come under the hammer sold. Earlier in the day the seven Minstrel daughters shown remained unbeaten in their respective classes.
