2 Sisters awarded for best poultry product
One of Britain’s largest poultry processors, 2 Sisters, has been awarded the Meat Management Industry Award 2011 for the best poultry product at a gala ceremony in the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington last week, recognising one of their premium Marks & Spencer products for its taste and ease to prepare.
The “Easy-Carve Oakham Chicken with Pork, Bramley Apple and Cranberry Stuffing” scored ten out of ten for taste in judging and was launched ahead of Christmas 2010.
It is produced at the company’s flagship manufacturing facility at Flixton, near Manchester, which has a long association with M&S, supplying poultry products to them for the last 30 years.
Eddie Power, managing director of the 2 Sister Food Group UK, thanked colleagues at M&S and within the company.
“We are very excited to have won this prestigious award. I would like to pay tribute to my colleagues in new product development at Flixton, together with our excellent M&S colleagues who challenged us to develop this high quality and innovative product,” he said.
Products were judged on their preparation time, appearance before and after cooking, taste, flavour, texture packaging and presentation, with about 80 entrants assessed in the awards process.
Other finalists were the “Chicken Paupiettes with Pork, Sage and Onion Stuffing” from Asda, “Sainsbury’s Three-Bird Roast” from Gressingham Foods and “Fresh Halal Diced Chicken Fillet with Sauce” from Gafoor Poultry Products Ltd.
