Cobb Europe rewarded for top biosecurity

Broiler breeding company Cobb Europe has been awarded the annual Cobb award for the biggest advance in biosecurity programmes and disease prevention for the second time in four years, in part reflecting its success in countering mycoplasma.
“We’re delighted to present this award to Cobb Europe,” said Cobb president Jerry Moye, at the company’s quarterly update at Siloam Springs, Arkansas, US. “It is their team’s continuing focus on the finer details of biosecurity to protect flock health that enables them to repeat their success.”
Roy Mutimer, general manager for Cobb Europe, who was presented with the award, praised his whole team and the contract growers for all their hard work on biosecurity.
“There were those who really doubted whether we could control the mycoplasma threat, so going a whole year with no flock loss is a fantastic achievement,” he said. “This has nothing to do with luck – more about the total commitment to live the biosecurity culture every day and so make it possible to protect our flocks.”
He added that mycoplasma continued to be a challenge, particularly in Holland, with strict biosecurity procedures needed to keep their flocks clean. Additionally, there was no salmonella outbreak in any flock for the entire year.
