Happy Egg Co to make wildflower meadows on farms

The Happy Egg Co is to create 80 acres of wildflower meadows on its farms in partnership with biodiversity business Habitat Aid.

The Noble Foods-owned egg brand hopes that improved flora will enrich ranges on 31 of its 108 farms, and provide birds with increased invertebrate protein.

Habitat Aid is supplying the seeds, which have been specifically selected from native species of British wildflowers and grasses. The wildflower seed mix contains nectar -and pollen-rich plants, aiming to attract bees and butterflies to the range.

Steve Horton, marketing director of The Happy Egg Co, said: “We have already planted trees on our ranges, but this is such an exciting opportunity for us.” The move would expand Happy Egg’s environmental credentials and improve the birds’ habitats, he added.
