New bedding treatment for poultry flocks

Farm hygiene specialists JohnsonDiversey has launched a new bedding treatment aimed at helping poultry farmers maintain a healthy environment for birds.
“Wet soiled bedding is a major breeding ground for the bacteria associated with a wide range of diseases in farm animals,” says Louise Womersley, marketing manager with JohnsonDiversey. “The economic impact of these problems makes providing clean, dry bedding a priority.”
Deosan Dry Bed is a fine powder which combines exceptional odour neutralising and absorbency capabilities. Based on essential oils and a range of desiccants, Dry Bed will absorb up to 50% of its own dry weight in moisture, providing outstanding drying performance, she says.
Deosan Dry Bed has a neutral pH of 6, unlike lime which is highly alkaline, making it safe and easy to use while presenting no risk to animals. It is easily spread and is effective on all bedding materials including straw, sawdust and wood shavings.
“Applied at regular intervals, dependent on the species and type of housing, it helps maintain a drier, healthier bedding environment while reducing the problem of undesirable odours such as ammonia,” adds Ms Womersley.
