NSF-CMi Certification will provide independent assessment and certification throughout the Lion scheme, including packing centres, laying farms, rearing farms, hatcheries, breeding farms and feed mills – involving over 1,750 site inspections.
The body will also become the independent control body overseeing the annual collection of samples from egg farms that go for laboratory testing to prove that there is no salmonella present.
“In addition, NSF-CMI will be able to deliver assessment services for on-farm IPPC environmental audits, and for Lion egg product plants,” said BEIC chief executive Mark Williams. “We will also be working towards joint farm audits where appropriate.”
The appointment follows a tender process conducted by BEIC for the Lion Code audit contract.
More than 85% of UK eggs are now produced to Lion Quality standards.
