Co-op launches new Christmas turkey range

Co-operative Farms has expanded its “Grown by Us” range to include turkeys in the run-up to Christmas.

The bronze birds were reared by traditional methods, allowing them to roam freely in and around trees and with access to an open-sided shelter with deep straw.

Christine Tacon, managing director of The Co-operative Farms, said: “Bronze turkeys are fantastic and a worthy addition to our Grown by Us range. They are free-range birds that have been reared with a lot of care, and we’re sure they will be very popular.

“Our farm staff have been checking on them daily and on several occasions have had to help escaped turkeys return to the flock.

“We raised a few birds last year to give them to staff and feedback was that they were the tastiest turkeys they had ever eaten, so this year we’ve raised a lot more for Co-operative Food stores.”

As well as free-range bronze turkeys, The Co-operative is extending its higher-welfare Elmwood standard to all its fresh and frozen own-brand turkey and turkey crowns this Christmas.

The Grown by Us birds will be in selected stores from 19 December and will sell at £45 for each 5kg bird.
