Two new egg contracts for Super Valu
Two of Ireland’s leading egg producers have won contracts with Irish retailer Super Valu.
Clonarn Clover, one of the country’s largest dedicated free-range egg suppliers, has a €6.8m contract, which Super Valu announced as part of the continued rollout of its own-brand range.
Riverview Eggs, a large cage and free-range egg producer in Co Cork, is also among the 104 supply contracts announced at the recent National Ploughing Championship, Ireland’s leading farming event.
Both companies already supply Super Valu – part of the Musgrave retail group which includes Super Valu, Centra and Budgens – with their branded eggs. The new deals are to supply the Super Valu private label, which was launched in March 2012 to offer value to price-conscious consumers.
“We’re delighted with the contract,” said Riverview Eggs managing director, D J Kelleher. “Without it we would be a very different company. We supply into the Cork depot, which supplies the southern half of the Republic’s requirement.”
