U-turn on Shropshire poultry planning decision
A Shropshire farmer has successfully overturned a decision taken by his local council to prevent him building a 150,000-broiler unit.
Guy Davies, from Little Ness, near Oswestry, put in an application to build three poultry sheds earlier this year.
But after fierce opposition from local residents over increased traffic to the site the council rejected the proposal.
Mr Davies subsequently appealed against the decision, which was approved by Shropshire Council’s planning committee last week following a 90-minute debate.
Speaking in favour of the application, Guy Maxfield, from the agents Roger Parry and Partners, assured councillors that road improvements had been made and explained the site was screened by 3,000 trees.
The go-ahead comes after an earlier application submitted in 2010 to build five sheds for 250,000 birds on the same site was turned down by a planning inspector last year, due to concerns over the impact on the environment.
