Prime cattle prices hold firm
Prime cattle values are remaining strong across the country with several centres reporting strong prices this week. At St Boswells on Monday the top price/head was a ÂŁ1302 sale for a steer from Lurdenlaw, while the top price/kg was a 199p/kg sale for a heifer from Low Middleton which sold to Messrs J Gilmour and Co.
Meanwhile south of the border at Carlisle, top price/kg was recorded at 194.50p/kg for a Limousin sired heifer from L Skleton, Low House. This one sold to Bill Howard. Top price/head here was a ÂŁ1192 call for another Limousin bred heifer, this time from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor Farm. Prime bulls were also in demand at Carlisle where the top call was a 194.5p/kg sale for a British Blue from Stephen Illingworth, Howgillside, while top price/head was a heavyweight Limousin from Messrs Henshall at ÂŁ1520.
