Rhaeadr flock leads Suffolk sale at Carlisle with 7,200gns bid
Three Three Nations sale at Carlisle, which comprised of draft females from four leading Suffolks flocks, peaked at 7,200gns.
Leading trade was a ewe lamb from the Rhaeadr flock of Myfyr Evans, Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh. Sired by Ardlea Arbennig this one is out of a Bailey’s BMW sired dam. She was the pick of L and M Liggett, Drumquin, Co Tyrone.
Rhaeadr breeding also featured in the second best priced lot. Achieving a bid of 6,500gns was a December 2012-born gimmer from Mark Priestley’s Limestone flock, Downpatrick, Co Down. By Rhaedr Ring-a-ding she is out of a ewe by Kings Theatre. She sold in lamb with twins to Muirton One Direction to JC Innes and Sons, Huntly, Aberdeen.
Back with the Rhaeadr flock and achieving a bid of 4,000gns was a ewe lamb sired by Rhaeadr The Real McCoy and out of a Rhaeadr Star Turn daughter. Buyer was R Fitton, Bolton, Lancashire.
A Ballynacannon shearling gimmer from Dennis Taylor, Coleraine, Co Londonderry, was snapped up by Bryden Nicholson for 3,800gns, for his newly established Knockem flock, Duns, Berwickshire. Sired by Birness Bacardi she is out of a Strathisla Shadrach daughter and sold in-lamb with a single to Mountford Mustang.
Iain and Judith Barbour’s Solwaybank draft, Annan, Dumfriesshire, peaked at 1,100gns for a Rhaeadr Rastafari daughter out of a Glenhead Morangie dam, which is a full sister to the mother of the 5,000gns Solwaybank Goldstar. This one sold to E Paxton Duns, Berwickshire, having been AI’d to Rhaedr Rannock in August.
Averages: Rhaeadr: 23 ewes, £1,317; 20 shearling gimmers, £894.60; nine ewe lambs, £2,059.10. Ballynacannon flock: 10 shearling gimmers, £1,092. Limestone flock: Nine shearling gimmers, £2,257.50. Solwaybank flock: Seven ewes, £795; five shearling gimmers, £714.
