Royal Show champion triumphs at Edenbridge and Oxted
Livestock entries were strong yet again at this year’s Edenbridge and Oxted Show as it gradually turns in to one of the strongest shows for beef cattle in particular in the south east, with sheep entries stronger for this year as well.
Leading the way in the beef lines was the Royal Show interbreed champion Sterling Viking 2nd from Boddington Estates. This two year old bull is by Sterling Rochester out of a Sterling cow.
Taking the reserve interbreed as well as the female interbreed championship was Hawstead Lodge Pamela from Andrew Brown, Suffolk. This four year old cow with her April heifer calf at foot byNightingale Panmuir is by Blelack Blackberet, the herd’s orginal stockbull and out of Hayrish Petura.
Winning the beef interbreed pairs was Sarah and Jason Wareham witht heir two British Blue females.
Another Royal Show winner was out gracing the south east with her presence in the form of Wilodge Cover Girl from Andrew Price, Maidstone. Cover Girl was female champion at the Royal as well as reserve overall and breed champion at Edenbridge and Oxted under judge Mike Dickens. She is by Wilodge Ulex out of Wilodge Uptown Girl.
In the commercial rings, Christine Williams and Paul Tippetts made the journey down from Shropshire to win the commercial section with their Limousin x heifer Ooh La La, by Solamon. Sarah and Jason Wareham took the reserve championship spot.
In the sheep rings, Susan Harmer of Wakeham-Dawson and Harmer took yet another interbreed championship with her third southdown sheep to take an interbreed this year. This time she won with a shearling ewe from her Ridings flock by Chaileybrook 06007 out of a homebred ewe.
Taking reserve was a Hampshire Down shearling ewe from Jonathan Long and Chrissie Lawrence. This one stood reserve overall at South of England this year and was bought from Charles and Sally Horrell last year as a lamb and is by Owlesbury Xeres out of a Pode Hole ewe.
