Royal Welsh nearly breaks attendance record

More than 235,000 people attended the four day Royal Welsh Show. The total was 35,000 up on the rain hit 2007 event, but just below than the record attendance of 240,140 achieved in 2006.

Show officials told a last day press conference they were delighted that Welsh farmers and the public had kept faith with the event despite current economic problems.

After first day hiccoughs the show’s new parking arrangements for up to 15,000 cars a day, which involved using more than 40 shuttle buses, worked well.

Conservative leader David Cameron was among final day political guests and he bought some Welsh lamb to take home.

Asked about the Welsh assembly’s decision to include a limited badger cull in its bovine TB eradication strategy he said described the policy as a “sensible approach”.
