Saturday’s Carlisle sheep trade round up

As I highlighted last week Saturday was a busy day for sheep sales at Carlisle with numerous breeds coming under the hammer and all enjoyed a healthy trade.

Texel trade was led at 2600gns which was given for a  tup lamb from George Wilkinson. By Arkel Nijinsky and out of a dam by Cornerstone Kig, Ellen Valley Pedro sold in a two way split to Jamie Brownrigg, Castle Sowerby and Matthew Watson, Harker Road Ends.

Next best at 1500gns was a lamb from the Forsyth’s Balteir flock. This was a Templand Oscar son out of a dam by Haddo Kershuffle and sold to A H Hunter, Alnwick.

And at 1050gns was shearling from A Nairey. Meinspride Othello is a Hexel Lexus son out of a dam by Loosebeare Gibralter. He sold to P R C Dean, Brampton.

Making 1000gns was a lamb from Messrs Barrow. This was Greenwood Pinnacle, a Swaites O Sullivan son out of a dam by Cambwell Krugar.

Heading up the Blue Texels at 1500gns was an aged ram from D G and M H Jones, Llangammarch Wells. He sold to G A and H M Francis, Carmarthen.  Next best ram at 900gns was a shearling from David Alexander, Galston. This one was bought by Messrs Paterson, Wigton.

Topping the Blue Texel females was a shearling ewe from Mr Alexander which made 1200gns when selling to J O and J G Jones, Newtown, Powys. Two others from the same home made 850gns and 800gns, which both being bought by J Campbell and Co, Thurso.

Top price for Hampshire Downs on the day was a 700gns bid for a ram lamb from Kevin McCarthy. This Yarcombe 75 Reference son out of a dam by Rademon Trojan Warrior sold to H Ashworth, Little Budworth, Tarporley.

At 620gns was a shearling ram from the Ballyvester flock of the Robinson family. This one is by homebred sire Ballyvester 5050 Email and out of a ewe by Cholderton Xcise. He sold to G Wilson, Larkrigg, Kendal.

And at 500gns was another from the same home and by the same sire. This was out of a dam by Ballyvester 730 Apollo and sold to D Beckwith and Son, Kirby Stephen.

Leading the females at 750gns was a shearling ewe from Kevin McCarthy. By Yarcombe 75 Reference and out of a dam by Ballyvester 730 Apollo, she sold having run with a homebred stock ram to Sandra Ireton, Ingleton.

At 700gns was an aged ewe from the same stable. This was by Apollo and out of a dam by Fychan Leopard. She sold having be served by Money Carragh Millionaire to a and L Sawyer, Tattenhall, Cheshire.

Roussin entries topped at 550gns for a ram lamb from John Fleming, Newton Stewart. This was by a sire bred by R D and A Em Molyneux and sold to Martin McCornick, Newton Stewart . Next best at 450gns was a ram lamb from Messrs Molyneux, Okehampton. This one, homebred on both sides also sold to Mr McCornick, Newton Stewart.

Then at 400gns was a shearling ram from Martin McCornick himself which is by a homebred sire and was used as a lamb, this one sold to R and M Wilson, Biggar. Leading the females at 320gns was one from Mr McCornick. By the 400gns shearling tup, this one was bought by Messrs Molyneux.
