Show cattle meet sharp trade at Borderway mart

Borderway Market held their Anniversary Show and sale of Continental Cross store cattle yesterday.

An outstanding show of forward cattle met the sharpest trade’s ever experienced at this centre.

The Show was ably judged by Mr Alan Taylor of Heathery Hall, Lanarkshire who awarded overall champion to the Limousin cross steer from KD and DE Millar, Crookholm, Canonbie.

The powerful 14 month old was sired by Cloughhead Biggles out of a British Blue x dam purchased from R Tiplapdy.  It later realised £1,540 and was bought by the Judge.

Reserve champion was awarded to JM and SM Priestley, Cracrop Farm, Brampton for their first prize British Blue steer; sired by the Irish bull Ballee Dominator, which sold for £1,520.

Top overall price of the day came from Messrs Baty, Broom Hill, Heathersgill selling a single Charolais bullock for £1,730.

Heifers topped at £1,390 for a pair of Limousin crosses with the vendor again Messrs Millar, Crookholm.  Top overall average from Messrs Thomlinson, Park View, Scaleby with a marvellous run of 22 Limousin bullocks to average £1,486.
