Skipton sale sets new world sheepdog record again

The world record price for a working sheep dog paid at an official sale was shattered yet again at Craven Cattle Marts’ summer fixture at Skipton Auction Mart yesterday. (Fri, Feb 11)

A 13-month-old tri-coloured bitch “Dewi Fan,” from John Bell, Howden, was sold for a resounding 6000 guineas, smashing the previous world record of 4900 guineas recorded

at Skipton’s summer sale in July last year.

That price was set by two dogs – another from John Bell, one of the country’s leading handlers and cultivators of sheep dog talent, and reigning World Sheep Dog Trials champion, Welshman Aled Owen.

Mr Bell acquired Dewi Fan as an 18-month-old from Welsh breeder David Streeter. She is by

Richard Millichamp’s International champion Dewi Tweed.

The buyer of the new world record price holder requested anonymity, but intimated that the dog would be going abroad.
