South Devon bulls sell to 4,600gns at Exeter
Prices peaked at 4,600gns at the South Devon Herd Book Society’s spring show and sale at Exeter Livestock Market last week (23 March), where 20 bulls exchanged hands to average almost 3,000gns.
The day’s highest price went to the polled bull Z Sexton Marvel 9, from RRB and SJ Harvey, from Ivybridge, Devon. This September 2013-born bull is by the Goffe Cave Marius son Sexton Marius, who won breed champion at Devon County Show in 2012, and is out of the Z Northwick General 10 daughter Z Sexton Bringgood 47. He sold to West Prawle Farm, Salcombe, Devon.
The same buyer also acquired Kestle Emperor 3 from RK Rundle, Newquay, Cornwall, for 3,500 guineas. This April 2014-born bull is sired by Welland Valley Hadrian 5 and out of the prolific show breeder Kestle Dahlia 26.
Second highest price was the male champion, Carzise Claudius 1, who sold for 4,500gns to Mells Park Trust, Frome, Somerset. Bred by Mr AL Pascoe, Hayle, Cornwall, this January 2014 born bull is out of Grove Claudius 102.
Mr and Mrs RC Burrough and Sons, Axminster, Devon, made 4,000gns when they sold their Sellstead Diablo son Z Godworthy Diablo 13 to Higher Hacknell Farm, Umberleigh, Devon.
His stablemate Z Godworthy Diablo 6, also by Sellstead Diablo, sold to JA and Y Hopkins, Lympsham, Somerset, for 3,500gns.
Females
Heifers sold to 1,500gns twice. First at this money was RW Bostelmann’s Rufford SAS Nettie, Eccleshall, Staffordshire. She sold to Arthur and Sons, St Neot, Cornwall.
Also selling for 1,500gns The Tully Partnership’s Waddeton Ann 159 from Brixham, Devon. Buyer was R Shingleton, Holbeton, Devon.
Averages: 20 bulls, £2,966; 13 maiden heifers, £1,279.
