Stirling bull sales: British Blue bulls sell to 5,000gns twice

A small and quality entry of seven British Blue bulls sold to a top price of 5,000gns, averaging £4,672 and achieving a clearance rate of 80% at Stirling bull sales today (17 Feb).

Breed secretary John Flemming said fit bulls that were ready to work were in high demand, adding: “It was a small, quality sale and members were well satisfied with the day’s trading.”

Realising the day’s joint top price of 5,000gns was Croftends General, from JE Bellas and Son, Appleby, Cumbria.

This October 2011 born bull is sired by Baroque De L’ecluse and out of the Empire D’Ochain daughter Croftends Emma. He sold to A and P Munro, Caplich, Alness.

At the same price was third prize winning bull Woodview Herbie from Neil Barclay, Insch.  This January 2012 born consignment is the son of Bluegrass Cyclone and out of the Dafydd sired Woodview Cotto. He boasts a Carcase Profitability Index of +19.  He headed home with L Muir, Orkney.

Next best at 4,000gns was Auchenlay Hoy from Messrs. Paterson, Upper Auchenlay, Dunblane. This son of Tamhorn Ethan and out of the Mountjoy Utopia sired Auchenlay Candy, found a new home with M Shearer, Lythmore, Thurso.

Selling at 3,800gns was the second prize winner, Oxcroft Haiwatha from John and Janet Green, Insch, Aberdeen.

Sired by Netherdale Dram he is out of Oxcroft Ebony. Purchaser was A Watson, Chapel Park, Mintlaw.
