Store sheep sell to £75.50 a head at Knighton

An entry of 872 store sheep met strong trade at Knighton Market last Friday, with hoggets averaging £65.62 a head and selling to a top of £75.50 a head for Charollais x ram hoggets from JS Probert, Cockford Hall. Second best at £74 a head was a pen of Texel x wether hoggets from TJ Pugh, Nantgwyn.

Meanwhile 120 store cattle averaged 215.26ppk. Larger sorts continue to be well-sought after, with three 470kg Blond D’Aquitaine x steers from JL and KH Nixon and Sons, Cefnpenarth, selling to 237ppk (£1,115 a head).
Top price per head was £1390 for a 615 kilo Limousin x steer from CB and EM Lewis and Son, Hobarris.  Achieving £1,310 for a 605kilo Charolais x steer, and £1,305 for a 600kilo Charolais x steer was JM Jones and Son, Bwlchau.

Meanwhile store heifers averaged 196.60ppko and £915.00 a head. Top price per head was £1210 per head for five 600 kilo Charolais x heifers from D M Wilding, Blaenycwm.
