Stores sell to solid trade at Bakewell

The 9,918 store lambs at Bakewell sold on a solid trade from start to finish.

Buyers were not as plentiful as at earlier sales with excessive rain in the west, arable duties in the east and a lacklustre finished trade all providing excuses.

However, purchasers were present at Bakewell from Norfolk, Leicestershire and the Midlands, Lincolnshire and numerous regions of Wales to ensure a spirited performance.

Trade stayed constant right through with the last three pens of the day at ÂŁ71.50, ÂŁ67.50 and ÂŁ68, an indication that if the quality is right the buyers will be there.

With many smaller long term lambs and more hill breeds amongst the entry it is unsurprising that averages were back on earlier sales.
