Strong stock quality forward at Cutcombe market
A superb entry of quality stock were forward for the April sale of cattle at Cutcombe Market. A grandstand packed with potential buyers crowded the ring and set an electric trade for all stock on offer. First under the hammer were the store cows selling briskly to reach an average of ÂŁ770 and peaking at ÂŁ1200 for a well fleshed Limousin cow from Mr RF Rawle, Higher Bodley Farm. This was closely followed by Mr & Mrs Ward, Horsen Farm who sold an Angus weighing 740Kg at ÂŁ1150.
A large number of in-calf heifers as part of the dispersal sale of stock from Mr & Mrs Ward, Horsen farm sold to realise a peak of ÂŁ1080 for a Devon heifer. Many others realised a price in excess of ÂŁ1000 with further Devon Heifers in calf to the Angus and Devon bull sold for ÂŁ1060.
Further heifers including A.Angus and B.Blue heifers again in calf to the Angus and Devon bulls sold to ÂŁ1040. A run of bulling heifers followed on with a smart pair of Hereford X heifers selling to ÂŁ880 this was followed by a pair of Black Hereford X heifers which realised ÂŁ760. Bulling heifers from Manor Farming Co sold to top the trade at ÂŁ1060.
A pair of Aberdeen Angus Bulls were next under the hammer, the first a full pedigree from the Almsworthy Herd sold by Mr O Edwards, Westermill Farm made ÂŁ1450 and the second from the same home, of pedigree breeding but unregistered sold to for ÂŁ1220.
A larger entry of 345 store cattle sold to a fierce trade with keen interest in all stock on offer with the overall average standing at 209p/Kg. The heifers sold to realise an average of 197p/kg and peaked at 239.5p/kg. This transpired into an average of ÂŁ765.5/head and a peak for some stronger 18month old Char X from Messrs MH Willes, Steart Farm reaching ÂŁ1080. Other lots from the same home sold to ÂŁ1060 and ÂŁ1050. This was closely followed by Mr P Elston, Old Berry Farm whose pen sold for ÂŁ1030.
Herefords topped at ÂŁ615 from Mr CJ Facey, Yellowhayes. Limousin’ from Mr RF Rawle topped the day with his pair selling to ÂŁ1210; this was closely followed by three further lots reaching ÂŁ1095, ÂŁ1010 and ÂŁ1002. Simmentals from Mr J Pugsley & Son, Zeal Farm were well received and peaked at ÂŁ1115. Devon steers from Week Farming Co. Sold to a peak of ÂŁ755 closely followed by Mr T Yandle, Riphay Barton, selling his pen to ÂŁ752.
A large number of Angus heifers sold well and peaked at ÂŁ1002 for Messrs AJ & MJ Tarr & Son, Churchtown Farm with others from Mr R Barrow reaching ÂŁ992. Mr Tarr also sold the top price Simmentals at ÂŁ1070. B.Blues heifers peaked at ÂŁ ÂŁ930 for Messrs Willes, Steart Farm. Blonde D’Aquitaine’ from Messrs SR Dallyn & Son, Kemacott sold to ÂŁ782 who also sold the top price Hereford heifers at ÂŁ840. Limousin’ from Mr RF Rawle, Higher Bodley peaked at ÂŁ1048.
Store Steers were equally well treated and were sold to an average of 222p/kg and a top of 263.2p/kg. This equated to an average per head of ÂŁ840 and top for Mr RF Rawle, Higher Bodley at ÂŁ1210. Angus steers peaked for a run from Messrs AJ & MJ Tarr & Son selling a pen for ÂŁ1175, the run of top prices included the B.Blue steers which sold for ÂŁ880. Blonde D’Aquitaine steers from Messrs Willes reached a peak of ÂŁ990 with Charolais’ from the same home selling well to a top of ÂŁ1120 this was followed by a run of Charolais from Mr RP Elston & Son realising ÂŁ1030 and ÂŁ1028 for two groups.
