Strong store cattle trade at Kington Market
McCartneys reported an entry of 100 store cattle and feeding bulls for their March sale held yesterday.
The sale of the store cattle sold to an excellent trade which has remained firm over the past few weeks which is being under pinned by good fat cattle prices and the number of available store cattle on the market.
The cattle at Kington were as dear as any where particularly the heifers and more could have been sold at these excellent prices, report auctioneers.
The steers and heifers ranged from 10 months to 24 months of age and from 270kgs to 700kgs
Feeding bulls also met with a good trade.
Top price paid for store cattle on the day was ÂŁ1,300 on several occasions for some Charolais steers from A M and G J Probert and Messrs Watkins.
Steers averaged an excellent ÂŁ2.20 a kg up to ÂŁ2.40 a kg for some Charolais steers from A M and G J Probert.
Heifers averaged ÂŁ2.10 a kg up to ÂŁ2.25 a kg for some Blonde x heifers form T J Pritchard
Feeding bulls sold to ÂŁ1.85 a kg for some Blonde x Bulls from T J Pritchard
All steers forward on the day averaged an excellent ÂŁ1,125 a head up to ÂŁ1,300 a head from Messrs Probert and Watkins
All Heifers forward averaged an excellent ÂŁ950 a head up to ÂŁ 1,165 a head from D L and J M Lewis
All bulls sold to ÂŁ665 a head from T J Pritchard
