Suckled calves sell to £2,000 at Kirkby Stephen
The annual show and sale of suckled calves at Kirkby Stephen saw prices rise to £2,000 for the 8-month old supreme champion forward from Andrew and Mark Brown, Asby Hall, Great Asby. This Limousin cross heifer, sired by Gallaber Dynamic headed home with EH Farming.
Also hitting the hot spot out of the 550 lots forward was the reserve supreme champion the seven month old British Blue Heifer also from the Brown Family, which sold for £1,680 to the judge Ian Grainger, Wigton.
Auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington described trade for all calves as “electric”. Bullocks averaged £936.38 (up £145.82 on the year) with heifers averaging £856.62 (up £158.30 on the year) resulting in an overall average of £900.77.
