Suffolk rams sell to 1,600gns twice at Borderway
Suffolk rams sold to a high of 1,600gns twice at Carlisle and Northern Counties sale, Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last week (8 August).
Prices for ram lambs were down ÂŁ46.53 on the year, although prices for shearling rams improved by ÂŁ27.13.
One of these top prices was paid by W Borthwick, Mauchline, Ayrshire, for a ram lamb from Paula and David Reid, Mouswald, Dumfries and Galloway. Sired by Cairness Custom Made, this one is out of a dam by Cairness Liam.
At the same money was the ram lamb STZ:14:00002, from Mr A Hambleton, Nr Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Sired by Rhaeadr Ring-A-Ding he is out of a Glenhead Black Diamond daughter. He headed to Lincolnshire with R Harrison.
Next best at 1,400gns was James Wallace’s aged ram FNV:12:105 from Newton Stewartm Wigtownshire. Sired by Forkins Figo he is out of a Strathisla Schumacher sired ewe. Buyer was CJ Wright, Biggar, Lanarkshire.
The male and supreme champion, a shearling ram from Lilburn Estates, Wooler, Northumberland, made 1,300gns when selling to F Reeday and Son, Skipton, North Yorkshire. Sired by Forkins Figo he is out of a Roseden Houdini sired dam.
Females
Trade for ewe lambs was strong; up some ÂŁ170 on the year.
Topping female trade at 1,000gns was the female and reserve supreme champion LXX:14:02124, from Ashley Bothwell, Patna, Ayrshire. Sired by Sitlow Centurion this December 2013, single born ewe lamb is out of a Threeways Tycoon daughter. Purchaser was P Sherwen and Son, of Gosforth Suffolks, Seascale, Cumbria.
