Texel females sell to 2,000gns at Shrewsbury sale

Charlie Boden’s Mellor Vale flock continued its rich vein of form, which includes a successful tup sales season as well as clinching the Sire of Year 2012 award, but taking the day’s top price at Saturday’s collective sale of Texel females at Shrewsbury.

Mr Boden’s sale leader, in a sale which also featured consignments from the Claybury, Loosebeare, Procters, Plasucha and Sportsman’s flocks, was a gimmer at 2000gns.

Sired by Hen Gapel Royal Gold, this gimmer, BCM1100061, is out of a ewe by Castlecairn Nile God and goes back to Glenside Legacy. Sold in-lamb to 25,000gns tup Milnbank Special One, she heads to Lincolnshire with Henry and Tina Ashley, for the Lincs flock.

Taking the second top call of the sale was Robert Bennett’s Plasucha flock with a 1500gns sale for a Tamnamoney Ned daughter. She was BFE1100009, a gimmer out of a Pen Parc dam by Mellor Vale Masterpiece which is an ET sister to a gimmer sold for 2100gns and to the second prize ewe lamb at this year’s Royal Welsh. Sold in-lamb to Ghyros Rambo, sire of 13,000gns Scholars Tiny Tempo, she was claimed by Alasdair Beaton, Falkirk.

Mr Bennett then sold another Ned daughter out of a Pen Parc dam at 1400gns. This was BFE 1100018, going back to Annan Jewel on his dam’s side . She also combined a top pedigree with show performance, having been first prize ewe lamb at the Shropshire and Borders progeny show in 2011. She also heads to Falkirk with Alasdair Beaton carrying lambs to Ghyros Rambo.

At 200gns less, 1200gns, was the top priced lot of the day from James and Hannah Draper’s Claybury flock. This was a gimmer, 1100106, by Glenside Royal Male and, like the last, out of a dam by Annan Jewel. This one, which heads to an undisclosed Northern Irish buyer, was sold in-lamb to the English National champion, Mellor Vale Tomahawk, and went to an undisclosed Northern Irish buyer.

Next best price of the day at 920gns was given for an ET sister to the sale leader from Charlie Boden. This one, BCM1100062 also in-lamb to Milnbank Special One. Taking her back to Aberystwyth were Messrs Morgan,

And taking an 880gns bid was Robert Bennett when selling another from his Plasucha flock. This gimmer, BFE1100023, is another by the sought after Tamnamoney Ned and is out of a Pen Parc dam by Annan Jewel. She again sold in-lamb to Ghyros Rambo and went home with Tom and Emily Morgan, Shrewsbury.
