Texel takes Devon Show sheep interbreed
The Texel champion, a shearling ewe from the Quick family’s Loosebeare flock has just scooped the interbreed championship here at Devon. This one is a Cennwm Magnum daughter out of a dam by Loosebeare Nightrider. She was shown previously as a ewe lamb, taking the first prize at Royal Cornwall last year. She is one of 170 shearling ewes in the Loosebeare flock, which runs to 350 ewes.
Reserve overall was the Scottish Blackface champion, an aged tup from John and Robert Jordan, Gidleigh, Dartmoor. This one was bred by Sandy Smith and was bought from Stirling in 2009. The Jordans run 650 Blackie ewes and he was part of the winning interbreed group last year and a daughter stood reserve breed champion to him yesterday.
