Texels hit 19,000gns at Lanark

High profile Texel breeders continued their ongoing investment in the best female lines available in the breed at the Seven Sale, Lanark, on the weekend, where bidding hit a high of 19,000gns.

Leading bid went to Gordon Gray of the Ettrick flock when he sold his best to Procters Farm, Clitheroe Lancashire.

Mr Gray’s sale leader, GGH1202072, is a daughter of the 2011 Scottish National Sale champion Foyle View Superstar and is out of a dam by the noted female breeder Knock Papoose. She sold in-lamb to Llyfni Usain Bolt.

It was another from the Ettrick pen, which secured the day’s second highest price of 11,000gns when Mr Gray sold an Ettrick Sir Alan daughter out of a dam by Teiglum Nevada. This one, GGH1201206, which goes back to Glenside Hot Shot was also in lamb to Usain Bolt and heads to Cheshire with Charlie Boden for the Sportsman’s flock.

It was Mr Boden who also had the final bid on the sale’s third highest priced lot, when he paid 9,000gns for the first Garngour gimmer in to the ring, CJN1201561 from the Clark family. This gimmer was a daughter of Strathbogie Smokey Blue out of a dam by Rascarrel Panther.

Going back to the widely admired sire Clynnog Joe Tex she was sold in lamb to 38,000gns Lanark Sale purchase Springwell Ulsterboy with an index of 289.

And the Clark family were back in the money when they also took the day’s next best price of 8,500gns. This time bred in the family’s Clarks flock, this gimmer, DCX1201666, was sired by 4,000gns Strathbogie Stifler and out of a Hexel Lexus dam. Robbie Wilson, Milnbank, was the buyer of this one, which also goes back to Joe Tex and sold in lamb to a Baltier sire.

Jock McKerrow, Grougfoot, then sold his best of the day at 6,800gns. Mr McKerrow’s pen leader was MDG1200562. This ET bred gimmer is by Sportsman’s Showman and out of a Hexel Lexus sired dam. Sold in-lamb to Mellor Vale The One she was bought by Graham Morrison for his Deveronvale flock.

Gordon Gray then took 6,200gns from the Hamilton family, Lanark, when he sold another Foyleview Superstar daughter, GGH1202072. She is out of a Teiglum Nevada daughter and sold in-lamb to 4500gns Usain Bolt.

At 5,800gns Melanie Kellet, Northamptonshire, bought one from the Clark family, with this being another from their Clarks flock. This gimmer by Strathbogie Smokey Blue is out of a dam by Kiltariff Osprey and sold in-lamb to Springwell Ulsterboy with an index of 212.

Procters Farm flock manager Jeff Aiken was then back in spending mood when he bid 4,500gns for another from Gordon Gray,  GGH1202102. This is an Ettrick Sir Alan daughter out of a Milestonehill O’Gara daughter and was also in-lamb to Llyfni Usain Bolt.

Jock McKerrow then sold his first in the ring, a full ET sister to his 6800gns gimmer, at 4,000gns. She was also in-lamb to Mellor Vale the One and was knocked down to Messrs Hamilton, Lanark.

And making 3,600gns was another Ettrick gimmer GGH1202086. Sired by Ettrick Sir Alan again, she is out of a dam by Joe Tex and sold to N Douglas, Catslackburn. She is in-lamb to Llyffni Usain Bolt too.

Early in the sale a 2,800gns call from Alasdair Beaton, Wester Crosshill, was enough to buy the third lot in the ring, Jimmy Warnock’s gimmer from his Watchknowe flock WJW1201183. This Fairywater Samurai daughter is out of a dam by Rascarrel Pride. She sold carrying to Springwell Ulsterboy.
