Top £2100 bid achieved twice at Beeston

A good turn out of stock at Wright Manley’s mid month sale resulted in the days top bid of £2100, which was achieved twice for two calved heifers.

 

Both heifers were forward from Mark Bowden, Malpas who realised many of the day’s top prices for his heifer consignment, with the first several lots purchased by James Harrison Farms, Tattenhall. First in the money was a daughter of Shottle, Holbeck Shottle Primrose, who was out of an EX91 11,000kg dam by Roylane Jordan. Next was Barmere Lucente Jessima, a Lucente daughter out of an 11,000kg Shottle dam and were both sold giving 37kg.

 

Mr Harrison then went on to make two further purchases from the same home, the first for £2050 was Checkley Bambam Barbara 9th by Braedale Bambam and bred from four generations of VG/Ex dams. Then at £2000 was another Shottle daughter, Shenington Shottle Flower.

 

Mr Bowden’s consignment also achieved a £2080 bid from Wilmot Blockley, Tarvin for a Modesto daughter bred in the Holneck Herd.

 

Also at the same money were several heifers forward from Jack and Barclay Taylor, Shrewsbury. First was a £2080 bid for the homebred heifer Burnbrae Vaughn Sincere from by Stardale Vaughan and selling to JG Williams, Nantwich. Just £30 short of this was another homebred heifer Burnbare Melody Tulip 3rd by Moet Melody selling to Wilmot Blockley.

 

The only other animal to break the £2000 mark was Grantchester Bambam Pam by Braedale Bambam and out of an EX91 dam by Chesapeake. Consigned by Ivygrove Holsteins, Norbury, Whitchurch this one sold to an undisclosed Lancashire buyer.  

 

Top price cow was £1680 for the third calf Rainborough Jenny 26th, a daughter of Alfrag Juror Kendal from W Ridge and Partners, Rotherham selling to John and Charles Sherwin, Middlewich.

 

Several coloured breeds forward also sold rapidly with all top prices being traded by O C Whittaker and Sons, Knutsford. Their top was £1780 for a calved Shorthorn heifer by Nejay Royalty with two Ayrshire’s selling at £1500 and £1450. A Jersey cross also sold at £1360.

A consignment of in-calf heifers forward from the Maesyrafon herd of Holsteins, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire also achieved good prices with a top price of £1850 for Maesyrafon Gail, a daughter of Kings-Ransom M Duce and was purchased by Simon Davies, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire. He also went on to purchase the Boulet Charles daughter Maesyrafon Rita 22nd tracing back to Oakridge for £1820.

 

G A Goodwin and Sons, Whitchurch also paid up to £1800 for several heifers, paying highest price for Maesyrafon Welcome 113th by Mr Crescentmead Altaplus.

 

Commercial in-calf heifers sold to £1700 for a July calving daughter of Kelstein Oliver from Aln Orme, Warrington and selling to Terry Goldstraw, Audlem.

 

Maiden heifers also sold on a steady trade and topped £940 for Heathleigh Kendall Tina 2md, while an entry of Shorthorn maiden heifers from David Price Jones, Overton-on-Dee sold to £880 for Dee Rosa 7th and selling to Rob Kite, Stafford.
