Tups in demand at inaugural Rugby sale

The inaugural sale of rams at Rugby Farmers Market, Stoneleigh Park, on Friday saw rams meet a ready demand from buyers keen to source sires for their early lambing flocks.

Strong demand for Charollais sires dominated the day with the sale topping at 460gns for one form Alan Thomas, Kimcote, Leicestershire. A pen of the same breed from the Gregory family levelled at ÂŁ430.50 and the entire entry of Charollais averaged ÂŁ374.50.

Leading the Suffolks on offer was D S Sault, Staffordshire, with a 400gns sale and the breed levelled at ÂŁ338.10. Merrick and Julie Pinny topped the Texels, selling to 400gns on a trade that saw the breed average ÂŁ312.75. (Rugby Farmers Mart).
