Ulverston Limousin trade tops £935 for a steer

Generous bidding and plenty of buyers created a strong trade for cattle at the North West Limousin Club’s special show and sale of store cattle at Ulverston, Cumbria where a steer produced the top price of £935.

Consigned by local vendors E and I Shuttleworth, the steer stayed in south Cumbria with buyer John Phizackerly. Strong stores had no trouble making well in the £800-plus range with overall prices reckoned to be up by over £100 a head on the year.

Leading the heifers and taking the overall championship was an entry from David Hoggartt, Broughton-in-Furness and claimed at £710 by John Bowling, Wigan, Lancashire. The reserve championship went to a pedigree bull from Alan Myerscough, Ulverston. It realised £1920 to Michael Irving, Grizedale, Cumbria. There was total clearance of the 573 head on offer.
