Wellington dispersal sees prices reach 2220gns

A 2220gns bid the topped the dispersal of Peter Pooley’s Wellington herd of Holsteins, Essex, with buyers flocking from across England.

 

Paying the top price was Peter Andrews, Herefordshire for the May 2009 calved heifer Wellington Madison Tokeyo sired by the homebred Magna Madison.

 

Just missing out on  the top spot was October 2009 calved Wellington Mexico Fawn, selling for 2200gns to Brian and Gareth Thomas, Carmarthen.

 

Leading youngstock prices at 1400gns was the four month old Wellington Star Dellia, a daughter of the Forte Star Jordan and a descendant of the noted Snow N Denises Dellia. This one headed to Wales with Richard Thomas, Carmarthenshire.

 

Included in the sale was a consignment of heifers from the Kingspool herd of P E King. These calved heifers sold to 2100gns for a Comestar Outside daughter being purchased by Simon Vaughan, Leominster, Herefordshire.

 

Next in the money was a calved Regancrest Dolman daughter selling for 2050gns to John Round, Gloucestershire. He also paid the leading price of 1850gns for an in-calf heifer, another Dolman daughter.

 

In the coloured section, non pedigree Brown Swiss wrerecows were in demand with third calvers selling to 1300gns and a sixth calver to 1200gns, consigned by N and B Hutton, Frome, Somerset, they sold to G Poulter, Evesham, Worcestershire.

 

Averages:

Wellington – 78 milking cows and heifers £1,236.03, 11 served heifers £930.68, 16 maiden heifers £1,000.99, 4 heifer calves £540.75, 18 unwarranted cows £479.50, 1 bull £840.00.

Kingspool – 8 calved heifers £1,909.69, 1 in-calf heifer £1,942.50.
