Welsh Pigs sell to 520gns at annual show and sale

The Pedigree Welsh Pig Society held its 4th Annual Show and Sale of Welsh, Large White and Duroc pigs at Beeston Castle Auction. Although entries were not as high as last year, breeders and buyers came from all over the country.

Thirty-nine pigs were put forward for sale, with those sold achieving an average sale price of 223gns. The winner of the inter-breed championship in the Show, Welsh gilt Owersby Dainty Girl 397, pictured below ( A and P Schofield, Market Rasen, Lincs) was later sold for the top price of 520gns.

Champion of Champions003.JPG Seven month old gilt, Goldfoot lucky Girl 1253, (D.T Evans, Brongest, Ceredigion) achieved the second highest price at auction. Duroc Deva Thunder 562 ( Mr and Mrs D Walton, Backford, Chester) sold for 200gns, while the highest price Large White, in-pig gilt Crimwell Greta 20,  (D. Brock, Warrington) was sold for 315gns.
