Woollen layers – WI knits jumpers to keep chickens cosy

It may seem like a bird-brained idea, but former battery farm hens have been knitted jumpers to help keep them warm during the recent cold snap.

The chickens, kept on an allotment in Blisworth, Northamptonshire, are being kitted out with eggstra-special woolly outfits by members of the local WI.

With fewer feathers than the free-range birds they share their home with, the chickens will sport their jumpers to help them cope with outdoor life until their feathers grow back.
