Agromek: Siwi quick-hitch system

Quick-hitch systems seem to be all the rage right now. Austrian firm Gangl and Welsh farmer Stan Roberts have both designed systems to make coupling up to three-point linkage mounted implements quicker. Danish engineer Rasmus Helms has designed something a little different – his Siwi combi-hitch connects trailers to tractors to help speed up the forage harvesting process. The kit went on display at the Agromek show.

The yellow part of the hitch attaches to the trailer and has a foot to make the trailer more stable when dropping if off in a wet field. The other half of the mechanism attaches to the tractor or forager hitch. The two spool blocks (one on the tractor side of things, the other on the trailer section) are connected by a hydraulic ram. A safety lock is also triggered as the two halves of the hitch are attached.

Mr Helms says one of the biggest selling points is how easy it makes backing up to a trailer – the frame of the quick-hitch system stands level with the rear window so there’s no need to strain your neck to see the hook.

A hitch package to fit a forager, tractor and two trailer sections costs just over ÂŁ10,700.
