Central tyre inflation system retrofit qualifies for FETF grant

Farmers looking to manage tyre pressures on the go can get a substantial grant for a retrofit system under the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund this year.

A central tyre inflation system (CTIS) comprises an air compressor with feeds to all four wheels – either over the tyre or via hub channels – and a control unit enabling tyre pressures to be increased or reduced as appropriate for road travel and field operations.

Optimising pressures in this way can minimise soil compaction, boost output through improved traction and protect the investment in tyres by reducing wear and tear on the road.

CTIS systems are mainly used on tractors, but can also be installed on harvesters and field application machines such as self-propelled sprayers, spreaders and slurry/digestate tankers.

A successful grant application will secure a payment of more than £4,000.
